Get Springing into Spring

Wow Spring is here ? but the snow still stayed. However, we still need to get to all the things related to spring. Put away the winter clothes, and winter deco. (note to me) must now put up my primitive snowmen )

I have started springing . I have bought a sewing machine and trying new things. I have been shopping online , no traffic, take your time, stay in you P J'S ) There is so much online that cannot be found in Malls. I have been cleaning which for me means:
. giving books I have read and know I will not read again to the local library
.giving shoes still in good condition but no longer wear to the corner Red Cross Bin (they need shoes , boots, sandals , all year round.
. Giving clothes that I no longer wear to charity shops (like salvation army)
. Clean out the cupboards , food that is still in date , but you know you won't use right away before the expired date , the food bank , they more so than ever need support.
. The list is endless and they are lots of places to give your stuff you no longer want or use a great way to recycle.

After my springing I like to treat myself to a few new things and I feel creative .

What is Perfection?

There is something to be said for perfection , but in the modern world perfection tends to mean
1000 or millions of the same stamped out boring items. Items that anyone can get at a department store or in mass markets.

Items that are unique and one of a kind have a definite glow about them that spells Special.
And personalized items are at the top of my list. After all who wants stuff everyone has (boring)
the trend has arrived that more and more people want things they can use and things around them that will be the new heirlooms of the future.

I am tired of the cheap factory stuff that looks tacky fast and is or wants to be thrown out in a few weeks or months.

They are some that really love winter (a few) let me know who they are please?
If you stay home more in winter (like me) then you need to have a few hobbies.
I knit while watching tv. and winter can make one want to get out unfinished work and give it another try. Time to read more , take an online educational course.

I am trying to use my time wisely on these cold winter days and nights . I have gotten out some unfinished art work and have my knitting needles clicking during my favorite tv. shows.

I have had one today. The symtoms are :

Looking into drawers and boxes and closets for materials.
Pacing from room to room with ideas bouncing in and out of your head.
Thinking of colors and how to mix the paints for exciting new colors .
Feel creative and have to get something on paper .
Get something on a canvas .
Get out the sewing or what ever
Shop for Art.

An Old Fashioned Christmas

Christmas can bring lots of expectations, if too many then fatigue can settle in and
take the spark out of the season.

Everyone has their own idea of what makes Christmas work for them.
The gifts, the food, the decorations, the getting things in the mail.
In recent Christmas's I have decided on decor mainly inside with just my mechanical
snow man outside.

I don't bake as much and think more of just deserts for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
I used to cook and freeze for weeks. It is our family tradition to have Christmas dinner
on Christmas Eve and have Christmas Day (the leftovers) no cooking and spend time with family and friends (relax)

I suppose this really dates me but in my young years gift giving was for the most part small
luxuries , like handkerchiefs , mini perfumes (evening in paris ) panties , bars of scented soaps, towels, mittens, gloves, scarves . Practical stuff.
Things homemade were popular as well, they took time, patience and creativity.
I still have the clown that was made by hand by a childhood friends mother with an embroidered face made from cloth and thread only given to me over 45 years ago and feel it is a treasure I keep.

Creativity , and Originality is now the new wave of Gift Giving.

People now for the most part can buy most of the things they need, including electronics etc.

The Internet certainly has changed life everywhere even in remote areas.

I live in a remote area no shopping malls , no taxis, a trip to do errands can take up an entire day. The internet brings shopping right into our homes and keeps us connected with friends old and new around the world.

Every once in awhile I add something new to my home that gives it that personal

Well the fog is in thick tonight so it is official. Summer is here.

I have a new project on the go a collage. I made 3 aceo cards over the weekend. One as a gift and the others still wondering whether I will offer them for sale or just keep them in my collection,

I am using a new medium for me in my collage , if it works out the way I hope it does, I will post the results soon.

Last week a very busy time

Everyday had some challenges and

art really had to be on hold most of the week.

What art time was available I spent making some artsy stuff

for my oldest grandson who turned teenager last week.

I made him a painted box , aceo card, other small

art pieces ,memory letter , and money as I certainly don't know the guitar hero,

and all the game lingo .

We went shopping all of us plus 5 other grandchildren, They were alot of us 3 cars for all to fit. The birthday guy got Rock Band with the drums, guitar and mike.

Lots of noise .

Lots of fun till late at night.

Now today I have alot of creative plans , so to get started. I have a canvas waiting.

and 2 other unfinished pieces.

There is a piece of jewerly I have my eye on there , have a look at the silk pin dolls.

What a busy day. What a busy week.
Prepared the canvas but still blank. However , started a new project and have a
birthday present for my grandson that is half done.

Today was the Day for Painting

A rainy Saturday and a perfect day for painting and doing art projects.

I finished 3 aceo , cards, prepared some canvas , and finished a 5x7 painting. WHoooooo ! day just flew.

Preparing the Canvas

Yesterday got the high density board cut , now need to fine tune and get out the gesso.
Also need to handcut watercolor paper and prepare . Alot of behind the scenes with art preparation before one begins art work. (oops didn't mean to use the word work) kinda takes from it somehow. In any case getting ready to paint.

Some Things Work and Some Don't

Some things work out and some don't . I tried my mini book and another photo experiment and not a go didn't work out.

However, I painted on driftwood and was pleased with the outcome.

ACEO (harder than it looks)

Aceo cards they are harder to do than they look.

Inspiration on a small scale , these little minature works of art

take time as well as inspiration. But when one is completed

it is the same feeling of expression as if you painted a big canvas.

I worked on a couple in the past few days , but they need to be fine tuned

I haven't gotten the feeling that they are completed as yet, and since a little

shadow of oneself goes into a piece of art I am not satisfied that they are ready.

So still working on aceo cards this week and by the end of the week I hope that I will feel that they are ready for consignment at http://www.artsycraftsyfolks.com/
